HARGEISA CITY is the National Capital City of the Republic of Somaliland. Hargeisa city is located in the North West of Somaliland (Latitude 9°18' N Longitude 44°03' E). Hargeisa is in between the  major other key Cities namely: the commercial port city of Berbera, the livestock trading city of Burao, and major food basket of Agricultural area & home  for Amound University Borama city as well as the international boarder town in Tog-Wajaale to Jigjiga town in Ethiopia.

Hargeisa city's present resident population are approximately (600 to 750,000) inhabitants with un-precedent rapid pace of growth according to the latest Hargeisa Abstract Statistical 2000 City Government Administration estimate.

There are 25 elected members from the three "National Political Parties on the Hargeisa Local Government Council (HLGC): One Executive Mayor/Chairman, a Deputy Mayor/Chairman of HLGC and 23 Councilors respectively engaged in the official "Sub-Committees of HLGC. The entire Council has been elected at country-wide political parties election that was held for the first time since Somaliland state was proclaimed in 1991. The last recorded popular based local government elections was 1968. The official term for the entire members of the HLGC commenced on December 2002 to 2007.

The Mayor, elected the following year. Term limits are now in place, which means the Mayor and Council Members may serve in their respective seat for a maximum of 10 years, or two consecutive terms. The Mayor and Council appoint the City Secretary, who serves as the Chief Administrator of the City organization. Hargeisa practices a Mayor form of government. The Hargeisa Local Government Council (HLGC) has regular monthly, weekly & Extra-ordinary meetings planned Throughout the calendar year, there are some either postponed or/and canceled sessions, so be sure it is scheduled check ahead of time.
